Programme Management

Programme Management can be defined as the management of a portfolio of projects and activities, within a structured framework, to achieve results that are of strategic importance to an organisation. Normally projects and activities are inter-dependent, and all have to be delivered in order for the Programme to be a success.

At Heery we recognise that managing a Programme is much more than coordinating a series of individual projects and often involves changes to the culture of organisations that impact significantly on their people.

We recommend the establishment of a Steering Group to guide the whole Programme, seek value generating opportunities, such as common procurement across a range of services, and to monitor the impact of individual activities and projects on the whole Programme.

Heery's skills in helping our clients define the desired outcome of their Programmes and then developing appropriate delivery strategies are based on a history of successful Programme Management for clients such as King's College, Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), Sun Microsystems, Natural History Museum and Brunel University.

Our capability to successfully manage programmes is founded on the following core Heery skills:

  • Assembly of highly performing teams from within our organisation and with appropriate external suppliers and consultants;
  • Programme brief capture based on the same rigorous process that we adopt during our Project Launch phase. This may be preceded by the development of a business case, that we can lead or support;
  • Defining the series of individual projects that together meet the overall programme brief in the most economical and efficient manner
  • Developing individual project briefs and key dependencies between individual projects
  • Integrated Project Scheduling - A key Heery Programme Management tool is a suite of integrated Project programme schedules that allow us to determine the impact of change to one Project on the overall Programme, and thus fully understand and evaluate the full impact that change will have;
  • Integrated Programme risk management that is actively managed, and identifies individual project risks and their impact on the overall Programme, so integrated mitigation strategies can be developed;
  • Individual Project Control through the Time/Cost Control system that we developed and refined over 50 years, which remains our tried and tested management process;
  • Bespoke Project Delivery Solutions such as Pre-Construction Management and Project Wide Principal Contractor that offer solutions to individual projects that might aid delivery of an overall Programme;
  • Specialist move and relocation management by teams that have an excellent track record of seamlessly moving business people, equipment and operations.

Heery team members are flexible and innovative with the ability to respond to uncertainty, change and new ideas.....all key attributes of a successful Programme Manager.
